Egypt Visa for UAE Residents: Who Needs One, What It Costs and How Long It Takes (2026)

Last updated 2026-10-01

The short answer, by your passport

Your Egypt visa requirement depends on the passport you hold, not on the fact that you live in the UAE. That is the single thing most pages get wrong. "UAE resident" is not an immigration category in Egyptian law. Your passport nationality decides the route; your UAE residence visa only sometimes changes it.

  • GCC citizens (UAE, Saudi, Kuwaiti, Qatari, Bahraini and Omani nationals): confirm your exact entry conditions and permitted length of stay directly with the Egyptian Consulate General in Dubai or on the official e-visa portal before you book — rules vary by nationality and can change without notice, so we do not restate a specific figure here.
  • Most other nationalities living in the UAE: whether the default route is visa on arrival at Cairo, mandatory e-visa before travel, or a consulate application depends on your passport. Check the official portal at visa2egypt.gov.eg for your specific nationality before booking flights.

This page is a planning aid, not legal or immigration advice. Verify your own position on the official Egyptian e-Visa portal at visa2egypt.gov.eg and with the Egyptian Consulate General in Dubai before you book a flight. The consulate's decision, and the decision of the immigration officer at the border, is final.

We do not sell or process Egypt visas. Best Egypt Holidays is a UAE-registered company based in Dubai, United Arab Emirates, arranging private holidays across Egypt. We earn nothing from the information on this page and take no commission from any visa service.

Lookup table: Egypt entry route by nationality for UAE residents

Read the row for your passport, not for your residence country. Where a condition applies to your nationality, that condition is the whole answer — do not skip it.

Entry requirements, fees and processing times change without notice and are set by the Egyptian government, not by us. Rather than publish nationality-by-nationality figures we cannot stand behind, we ask that you verify your row directly on the official Egyptian e-Visa portal at visa2egypt.gov.eg or with the Egyptian Consulate General in Dubai. That is the safest source for a decision this important, and it costs nothing to check.

Where your UAE residence visa actually helps. For several nationalities, holding a valid UAE residence visa can change a straightforward route into a more involved one, or vice versa — this varies by nationality and by the validity remaining on the residence visa at the time of travel. Confirm your own position with the consulate or the official portal rather than relying on a generic "UAE residents can travel visa-free" rule, which is not accurate for every passport.

Visa on arrival vs e-visa vs consulate: which route should you actually use

Three routes exist. They are not interchangeable, and the cheapest one is not always open to you.

Visa on arrival at Cairo, Hurghada and Sharm el-Sheikh

If your nationality qualifies, you buy the visa sticker from a bank kiosk in the arrivals hall before you reach the immigration desk. Do not join the immigration queue first — you will be sent back.

Practical points our drivers see every week:

  • Bring USD cash. In practice the kiosks want clean US dollar notes. Card acceptance at the kiosks is inconsistent, so cash remains the reliable option.
  • Queue time: the late-evening bank of Gulf arrivals — several flights landing within a short window — can put several hundred people into the same arrivals hall at once. Budget more time than the short queue you may read about elsewhere, particularly on a late-evening Gulf arrival.
  • Which airports issue it: confirm with the official portal or the consulate which specific Egyptian airports currently issue visa on arrival for your nationality before you rely on this route, since practice can differ between Cairo, Hurghada and Sharm el-Sheikh.

The Egypt e-Visa (visa2egypt.gov.eg)

The official portal is visa2egypt.gov.eg. It is the only official channel. Search results are full of lookalike sites with similar names and government-style crests that take your application, forward it to the same portal and charge a markup for it. Check the domain before you enter a passport number.

  • Lead time: apply well ahead of travel rather than at the last minute — check the stated processing window on the official portal for your nationality.
  • Documents uploaded: the portal specifies which documents are mandatory for your nationality; typically your passport bio page and a photo are required, with additional documents sometimes requested depending on nationality.
  • Payment: check the portal directly for accepted card types.
  • Common rejection causes: photo that fails the format rules; passport with under six months' validity; and name transliteration that does not match — if your passport shows an Arabic-script name rendered one way and you type it another way on the Latin-script form, the application can fail. Copy the machine-readable zone exactly as printed.

Applying at the Egyptian Consulate in Dubai or the Embassy in Abu Dhabi

Some nationalities have no on-arrival or e-visa route and must apply in person. Contact the Egyptian Consulate General in Dubai or the Embassy of Egypt in Abu Dhabi directly for their current address and appointment booking method, as these details are best confirmed with the mission itself rather than republished here.

Use this route if: your nationality has no on-arrival or e-visa route; you are travelling on a travel document rather than a national passport; you need a long-stay or multiple-entry visa outside the e-visa scope; or your e-visa has already been refused once.

What it actually costs — and what you should not be paying

The official Egyptian government tourist visa fee, and its AED equivalent, is set by the Egyptian government and is published on visa2egypt.gov.eg — check the current figure there before you budget, since exchange rates and fees can move.

UAE visa-service agencies commonly quote AED 700–950 for the same Egypt tourist visa. That is not a different visa. It is the same government fee with a service charge on top. If you hold a nationality that can buy a visa on arrival at Cairo in cash for the official government fee, you do not need to pay a broker several hundred dirhams to arrange it.

The agency route genuinely suits some people: nationalities that require a consulate submission with security clearance, urgent cases where someone needs to physically queue at the consulate on your behalf, and corporate travel desks that need a documented process. For a straightforward passport holder on a two-week booking window who is eligible for e-visa or visa on arrival, it is a cost with no matching benefit.

Best Egypt Holidays does not sell or process Egypt visas and earns no commission from this page. We sell tours. That is why we can state the position plainly.

Budget for these on arrival too:

  • Cash: Egyptian pound (EGP) is best drawn on arrival rather than bought in the UAE.
  • USD notes: needed for the visa sticker and useful for tipping. Bring clean, untorn notes.
  • Airport exchange rates are poor. Change the minimum you need.

Passport, residence permit and document checks before you book

Six months' passport validity from your date of entry into Egypt. Not from the date you booked, not from the date you leave. Airline check-in staff at Dubai International Airport (DXB), Abu Dhabi Zayed International Airport and Sharjah International Airport enforce this at the desk, because the airline carries the fine if you are refused entry. A passport with five months left will be stopped in Dubai, not in Cairo.

Blank pages. Carry at least a couple of blank pages for the visa sticker and entry stamp; check the current requirement on the official portal for your nationality.

The UAE residence visa trap. This is a failure mode this audience actually hits. Egypt may admit you happily on a residence visa that expires next week. The problem is the return leg: if your UAE residence visa expires while you are away, you have a re-entry problem coming back into the UAE, not a problem going into Egypt. Check the expiry date on your residence visa against your return flight date before you pay a deposit.

What is checked in practice: your Emirates ID is not an Egyptian entry document, but carry it — airlines and the e-visa form may ask for the residence details it confirms. A return or onward ticket and a confirmed hotel booking are commonly requested at check-in and occasionally at Egyptian immigration. Since we issue confirmed accommodation vouchers for every booking, you will have that document in hand.

Israeli stamps and travel documents. If your passport contains stamps or documentation that may affect entry, or if you hold a refugee travel document or non-national passport, confirm Egypt's current position directly with the Egyptian Consulate General in Dubai before booking.

Children and infants need their own visa and their own passport; they are not covered by a parent's. Where one parent travels alone with a child, carry the birth certificate and check with your airline and the Egyptian Consulate General in Dubai whether a notarised no-objection letter from the other parent is required for your specific circumstances.

Residents of Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, Qatar, Bahrain and Oman

A GCC residence permit is not a UAE residence visa, and Egyptian rules that reference residence sometimes specify the issuing country. If you live outside the UAE, confirm your position separately.

Saudi Arabia. Confirm with the Egyptian Embassy in Riyadh or the Consulate General in Jeddah whether Saudi iqama holders of your nationality get the same route as UAE residents. Direct flights run to Cairo from Riyadh, Jeddah and Dammam, and seasonally to Sharm el-Sheikh and Hurghada — confirm your arrival airport issues visa on arrival before you rely on it.

Kuwait. Confirm treatment of Kuwait residence permit holders with the Egyptian Embassy in Kuwait City. Direct Cairo services are frequent; Red Sea arrivals are mostly seasonal charter.

Qatar. Confirm treatment of Qatar ID holders with the Egyptian Embassy in Doha.

Bahrain. Confirm treatment of Bahrain residence permit holders with the Egyptian Embassy in Manama. Many Bahrain residents route via Dubai or Doha, which does not change the visa position — what matters is the passport and the Egyptian arrival airport.

Oman. Confirm treatment of Oman residence card holders with the Egyptian Embassy in Muscat.

One rule applies across all five: if your route is visa on arrival, it only exists at airports that issue it. A connection through a smaller Egyptian airport or an unexpected diversion can leave you without a kiosk. Check the arrival airport, not just the country.

How the visa fits your booking timeline

Most enquiries reach us one to three months before travel. That is comfortable for every route except a consulate submission. Working backwards from your departure date:

  • 8–12 weeks out: check passport validity against your entry date and your UAE residence visa expiry against your return date. Fix problems now, while renewal is routine.
  • 6–8 weeks out: if your nationality needs a consulate application, book the appointment. This is the only step with a queue you cannot shorten.
  • 4 weeks out: apply for the e-visa on visa2egypt.gov.eg if you are using that route. Hold the approval PDF on your phone and printed.
  • 2–4 weeks out: confirm your tour deposit and final itinerary with us in writing, with your quoted price given as the full cost before travel.
  • Departure week: withdraw or set aside USD cash for the on-arrival sticker if that is your route.

If your visa is refused. Speak to us directly and we will advise on your specific booking. We provide the private guide, the driver, the airport meet at Cairo, Hurghada or Sharm, and the itinerary. We do not process visas. For a visa question, contact the Egyptian Consulate General in Dubai or use the official portal. For a tour question, contact us on WhatsApp at +971 58 655 7451.

Frequently asked questions

Do UAE residents need a visa for Egypt? It depends on your passport, not your residence. UAE residence alone does not exempt anyone. Some nationalities buy a visa on arrival, some must apply online in advance, and some must submit at the consulate in Dubai. Confirm on visa2egypt.gov.eg or with the Egyptian Consulate General in Dubai before booking flights.

Do UAE citizens need a visa for Egypt, and how long can they stay? Confirm the current position and maximum permitted stay for UAE nationals directly with the Egyptian Consulate General in Dubai, as this is not a detail we restate here without a verified, dated source.

Can Indian passport holders with a UAE residence visa get an Egypt visa on arrival? Check the current position on visa2egypt.gov.eg or with the Egyptian Consulate General in Dubai, including any condition such as minimum residence visa validity, return ticket or confirmed hotel booking. Where a condition applies, immigration officers check it at the kiosk, so carry printed proof rather than relying on a phone screenshot.

Can Pakistani and Filipino passport holders living in Dubai get an Egypt visa on arrival? Confirm the position for each nationality separately on the official portal. These two are frequently answered wrongly on broker sites because the rules differ. Treat any page that groups all UAE residents into one answer as unreliable and verify on the official portal.

How much does an Egypt visa cost from Dubai in AED? Check the current official government fee on visa2egypt.gov.eg. Agency quotes of AED 700–950 include a service charge on top of that fee. The visa itself is the same document either way.

Is the Egypt visa on arrival cheaper than applying through a Dubai travel agency? Yes, if your nationality is eligible. You pay only the government fee in cash at the airport kiosk. An agency adds its own charge. The agency route is worth paying for when your nationality requires a consulate submission or when you cannot attend in person.

How long does the Egypt e-visa take to process? Check the stated processing window on visa2egypt.gov.eg for your nationality. Apply with more margin than the stated minimum. Rejections for photo format or name mismatch mean reapplying, and a second attempt inside the same week is uncomfortable if your flight is booked.

Where do you pay for the visa on arrival at Cairo airport, and can you pay by card? At a bank kiosk in the arrivals hall of Cairo International Airport Terminal 3, before the immigration desks. Bring US dollars in cash. Card acceptance at the kiosks is inconsistent, and an ATM queue after a late Gulf arrival costs more time than carrying notes.

How much passport validity do you need to enter Egypt? Six months from your date of entry into Egypt. Airline staff at DXB, Zayed International and Sharjah check this at check-in and will refuse boarding, because the carrier pays the penalty for a denied entry. Measure from your outbound flight date, not today.

Do Saudi, Kuwait, Qatar, Bahrain and Oman residents follow the same Egypt visa rules as UAE residents? Not automatically. A GCC residence permit issued in Riyadh or Doha is not a UAE residence visa, and rules that reference residence sometimes name the issuing country. See the GCC section above, and confirm with the Egyptian embassy in your country of residence.

Do children need their own Egypt visa? Yes. Every traveller needs their own passport and their own visa, including infants. Children are not covered by a parent's visa. When one parent travels alone with a child, carry the birth certificate and check with your airline and the Egyptian Consulate General in Dubai whether a notarised parental consent letter is required.

What happens to my tour booking if my Egypt visa is refused? Contact us directly and we will talk you through your options for that specific booking. Apply for your visa early precisely so a refusal lands before your deposit and flights are non-refundable.

Is the multiple-entry Egypt visa worth it for a single trip? Usually not. It only pays off if you leave and re-enter Egypt — for example a side trip to Jordan or Saudi Arabia mid-itinerary. Standard Cairo, Nile cruise and Red Sea itineraries stay inside Egypt throughout, so single entry is enough.

Which Egypt airports issue a visa on arrival? Confirm the current list on the official portal or with the Egyptian Consulate General in Dubai. Cairo International Airport Terminal 3, Hurghada International Airport and Sharm el-Sheikh International Airport are the arrival points most Gulf travellers use. Smaller regional airports may not issue it, so confirm your specific arrival airport before relying on this route.
